Writes and edits complex technical documents, including deliverables, manuals, reports, specifications and procedures in conformance with the customer or Alion writing and documentation review process.
Must be familiar / have experience with The Joint Capabilities Integration Development System, or JCIDS, which is the formal United States Department of Defense (DoD) procedure which defines acquisition requirements and evaluation criteria for future defense programs and the documents associated with Capability Based Assessments (CBAs).
Attends working group meetings and consults with customer or technical staff to determine most appropriate schedule of deliverables and objectives. If directed, takes notes and provides meeting minutes.
Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits complex technical documents for publication. Edits documentation for style, clarity, consistency, and adherence to customer guidelines.
Provides oversight and interacts closely with other authors and Technical Editor-Writers, word processing, graphics, and reproduction staff in the preparation and production of a variety of documents. Coordinates large production efforts.
Provides guidance to less experienced / junior Technical Editor-Writers.
Researches technical concepts and provides synopsis of findings. Establishes a database of
findings / papers / web sites / etc to assist the team in creating references for future collaborative efforts. Creates new or modifies existing technical documents that are complex in nature.
Conducts interviews with various technical staff to gather data for documentation.
Evaluates and provides feedback on draft documents and attends documentation reviews.
Checks classified documentation for proper security markings.
Coordinates production of the final documentation (from print form to distribution via CD-ROM or other electronic format) with the associated authors and publication staff.
Prepares transmittal memorandums and coordinates the transmission of documentation to sponsors. Also prepares contractual deliverables as required by the covering contract.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related discipline plus 5 to 7 years of directly related experience. In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.
Must be: Proficient in the English language.
A master of MICROSOFT OFFICE software (word, excel, powerpoint)
Familiar with appropriate DoD style reports, guidelines.
Excellent communicator with demonstrated interpersonal skills.
Eligible to obtain a secret security clearance.
