Piracy figures for 2009 surpass those for previous year

The number of piratical incidents reported so far in 2009 has surpassed the total number reported in 2008, according to the ICC International Maritime Bureau (IMB).  Over half the worldwide attacks are attributed to Somalia pirates according to IMB.

        Qualifications

Qualifications 

 

Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related scientific discipline plus 6 years directly relevant work experience.  Master's degree plus 5 years directly relevant work experience. A good working knowledge with Excel and PowerPoint and excellent communications skills.  Knowledge and understanding of the Entitled Process and Navy Data Environment (NDE) is a plus.  Occasional travel and the ability to obtain a security clearance is required.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Maritime Industries Academy is an urban public school in Baltimore, Maryland that serves approximately 600 students in grades 9-12. The Academy is initiating a maritime instructional program that will offer courses in maritime studies, shipboard operations, intermodal transportation, maritime law, navigation, business, and maritime affairs. This program will be implemented over the next four years.

 

The Maritime Industries Academy will be moving to its new campus during the summer of 2009. The new location is 5001 Sinclair Lane Baltimore, MD 21206. Maritime Industries Academy will be housed in two of four buildings located on a large campus with tennis courts and a football field.

 

The Maritime Industries Academy invites applications for a full-time faculty position. This is a teaching position that will require curriculum development, maritime program coordination, and direct instruction to students.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

• Assist in teaching the 9th grade introductory course, “Maritime Professional Studies”.

• Develop and manage courses that will comprise the Maritime Studies Program.

• Instruct and assist in instructing in other maritime courses as developed.

• Participate with the school faculty and administration to integrate appropriate maritime material in other academic courses.

• Assist in administration of USCG student MMD documentation program.

• Participate and instruct in the maritime jobs and intern program.

• Assist with the student apprentice program.

• Supervise and accompany students on field trips both ashore and afloat in connection with the maritime curriculum.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

• Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate discipline related to maritime studies such as marine transportation, oceanography, engineering, or naval architecture.

• Excellent communication and leadership skills.

• Skilled in the use of computer based office/business applications (i.e. Microsoft Office)

• USCG License as Third Mate or Third Assistant Engineer

 

*Exceptional candidates who do not meet minimum qualifications may be considered with significant maritime experience.

 

ADDITIONAL PERFERED QUALIFICATIONS

 

• Experience in teaching primary and secondary students with ability to successfully manage student behavior.

• Teaching experience in maritime subjects

Primary Duties & Responsibilities :
The Mission Coordinator position reports directly to a Team Supervisor
under the FSR Management Branch within the Deployed Operations
Department at Insitu, Inc.  The Mission Coordinator provides oversight
of daily ScanEagle operational missions and is imbedded with
forward-deployed military forces in various overseas locations.  This
position performs a critical liaison function between UAV ISR support
operations and the war-fighter customer.

The successful Mission Coordinator will have an in-depth understanding
of air/ground contingency operations and be capable of operating in a
dynamic multiple, simultaneous UAV operations in a complex, austere and
hazardous airspace operating environment. 
Responsibilities:

■ Manage up to 5 UAV air operations at a time in a complex
airspace environment where deconfliction and regulatory/procedural
compliance is essential
■Checks weather observations and forecasts and provides updates as
required
■Conduct pre-mission briefing including weather, NOTAMS, SPINS and
airspace requirements
■Coordinate with ATC and reviews Airspace Control Plan and Mission
Logs
■Accomplish Mission Risk Assessment and conduct crew briefings
■Requests ATC clearance and advises UAV aircrews of clearances to
start, launch and recover aircraft in he local control zones
■Monitors all UAV flight activities during mission and ensures
targeting/video/customer support requirements are met including a

■Completes all post-mission reports to includes mission logs,
daily events, SITREPS/PERSTAT/MAINT
■Provides over-all mission direction, monitoring and coordination
between operators and the TOC/JOC and/or ground force commander
■Performs all required notifications to the ISR Battle CPT
including operational/equipment issues which may impact mission
accomplishment
■Ensures the process of aircraft accident/incident investigation
is fully coordinated in forward deployed regions and ensures evidence
collection practices, contractual requirements are accomplished
■Responsible for securing the scene post-mishap and the
chain-of-custody and evidence/data distribution through appropriate
channel to authorized investigative sources.
■Ensures that the integrity and thoroughness of the aircraft
mishap reporting process is maintained.

***  It is with sadness that I report the passing this morning of RADM Wayne E. Meyer, USN(Ret). Admiral Meyer had been hospitalized for several months and had recently been moved to the Washington (DC) Hospital Center.  Adm. Meyer was known as the “Father of Aegis.”  USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108) will be commissioned in Philadelphia next month.

Qualifications 

 

Bachelors degree in engineering, science or related technical discipline plus 10 years of experience in a technical position.  At least 2 years of technical project management experience.  Experience managing a staff is preferred.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 15 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

Leadership and management skills as evidenced by previous work experience.

Strong customer service orientation.

A security clearance of an appropriate level may be required after employment.

 The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) is seeking an experienced organizer to expand our outreach to the military community.  In 2008, the USGLC launched its National Security Advisory Council (NSAC), a group of over fifty former military officials comprised primarily of four-star generals and admirals, which represents all branches of the Armed Forces, who support a smart power approach of elevating diplomacy and international development programs as central to our foreign policy and national security strategy.

 

The Military Outreach Fellow will be responsible for engaging retired military officials around the smart power agenda and amplifying their voice in support of development and diplomacy with the policymakers, opinion leaders, media and the general public.

 

Responsibilities will include:

    Expanding the base:  Military Outreach Fellow will be responsible for expanding the membership of the elite NSAC of former four and three star generals and spearheading an initiative to increase the involvement of other military voices (e.g. two and three stars.)

 

    Build and Strengthening Member Commitment:  Military Outreach Fellow will work to deepen the involvement with our military leaders while expanding their commitment to specific policy goals; this includes arranging meetings with NSAC members and policymakers, involving members in the USGLC’s state based activities, and delivering innovative and poignant communications to members to keep them abreast of policy-specifics.

 

    Media Outreach:  Military Outreach Fellow will work to maximize the public visibility of the NSAC and Military Voices through outreach to various media outlets including major print and online newspapers/journals and broadcast radio and television.

Ideal candidate has a military background (or contacts within the military community), strong organizing experience, and an understanding of the military community.  In addition to networking skills, the position requires strong writing, communications and policy-relevant skills.
